Hmm... since there is no title for this post, I believe everyone know that I have failed my practical driving test.. ya.. I don't know how to describe this feeling that I feel now... it's not sad or heartbroken... it's just erm... speechless? Well, I remembered I purposely chose 1st Nov because today is my grandfather's birthday.... yesterday night, I was happily telling him that tomorrow I will be having my test and I will bring back my driving license for him to see.. I am sorry, grandpa... I have failed you.
My warm-up started at 8am. I was extremely nervous and excited. Everything felt so damn bloody good today. I didn't strike kerb, I didn't mount kerb, I didn't roll backwards at the slope.. everything was so perfect... but then I made an error. I forgot that it felt so perfect because of my perception... perception is bias... I have to agree with that. Right here, I must apologise to my instructor... he did a great job after all....
I saw many students with immediate failures today. 2 students mount kerb in front of me and that's not the problem. The problem is when they mount kerb, they depress the accelerator even more which is damn retarded and one car almost hit my car. Both me and my instructor got shocked... what the hell? I saw a car crash inside the circuit... the driver wasn't a student... instead, he is a school instructor... he hit the kerb at the parallel parking... wtf? Then I got scared... but I tried my best to calm down.
From here onwards I am gonna swear so bear with me. I went in the waiting room exactly at 10am and the test examiner started calling names. I waited and waited but... my name wasn't called. I sensed something wrong... because at 10.20am, I was the only one in the waiting room. NO ONE except me. Then finally, a man came in and called my name. I greeted him and he called me to go to my car. So I walked there... start the engine and adjusted everything. My test examiner's name is Seek Thian Lye so let's call him Mr seek.
I went in the circuit and the first thing he called me to do was directional change. I tried my best to check every fucking thing as I reverse. I checked the mirror, my blindspot, the front, the left, the back and the right.
He didn't give me points for my directional change so at first I thought Mr seek is a fair examiner. I can see that Mr seek is a kan chiong person.. meaning someone who can't wait and expect everything to be fast.
So next I went up slope and everything was good too. He didn't deduct me any points so far.
So I stopped at a junction inside the circuit as it was red light. The light soon turned green and I moved off.
Then I heard something.... what's that sound? OH SHIT... it's his stylus... he is tapping his electronic device. Every time your test examiner tap his fucking device which looks like an ipad, it just means that you did something wrong. I was puzzled... did I really do something wrong? I see nothing wrong so I ignored him.
Went to do parallel parking and I admit.... I admit that all the mistakes made at the parallel parking was my fault. I turned the steering wheel while stationary, I fail to confirm safety as I parked in my car into the lot at one go without checking. Maybe I was nervous.. I forgot to check...
I did the same thing for vertical parking... fail to confirm safety. Then I was trying to turn right but there was a car coming. So I stopped and I hear his stylus touching the screen again. wtf?
We all know that there are many stop signs and white lines inside the circuit. Tons of people get immediate failure because they never come to a complete stop at the white line. I was braking where Mr seek asked me to go. Then I was like... shut up... fuck you, you want me to fail.. that's why you ask me to go. I don't care.. I will do it as long as the wrong feels right. So I stopped and ignored him despite the fact that he keep repeating go...go... Then I kena a mistake called delay in moving off. Wondered how long did I delay? I delayed 2 seconds... 2 seconds is what it takes to penalize me 2 points. Not to forget that you have to check right and left and your blindspots.
I know he is pissed off because I refused to move. But I remembered Yuwen told me... don't let the stylus affect you.. just ignore it.. so I did what he said.
I was doing my S course and I turned too late when moving out... Mr seek shaked his head and I know I will get points for wide turning.
The points I get inside the circuit is sufficient to let me pass my test. But the nightmare is here when I exit the circuit. I drive based on the traffic condition... mainly my speed is at 40km/h.... is that too slow? I don't think so.. but Mr seek thought so. I was damn blur too.. he asked me to turn right but I went to U-turn instead. So he pulled my handbrake and he was super pissed off with me. I know from that point onwards, he will purposely fail me. He will add points to ensure that I can't pass. And I already know in my heart that I will fail this test. Well, I tried my best. But I seriously didn't expect this outcome..
There is a construction work near gate 2 so I have to keep right and yet Mr seek scolded me for driving on the double white line. I know I can't cross the double white line but this is a special case. I was afraid that he will give me an immediate failure because I touched the double white line. But luckily, he did not.
I went back to CDC and I know I am gonna fail. I expected my points to be somewhere near the just fail range meaning around 22 points. But looks like I am wrong... he really wanna fail me. I followed him up the room to print my result slip and he started scolding me. He said that my driving skills are horrible and started scolding me for all the mistakes I made. Sigh... I looked at that paper and I was both shocked and surprised. Shocked because there were too many mistakes. Surprised because they were all small little tiny mistakes which contain 2 points each. I didn't make any major mistake at all.
After scolding me, he said "I have to fail you". So he gave me my results slip and I didn't know what to do.... I got 30 points... what the fuck.. I have no major mistake and yet my minor mistakes can add up to 30 points?
I read through all the mistakes and I can't believe what am I seeing... Mr Seek actually gave me a few free counts... free counts are mistakes that you made but they decided to take it as no mistake.
My result:
1) 1x Fail to use engine brake/depress clutch unnecessarily at straight road. Location: junction of Ubi Rd 3 and Ave 2. 2 points awarded but he free count.
2) 2x Fail to use engine brake/depress clutch unnecessarily at straight road. Location: Centre point of Ubi Ave 1. 2 points each so I got 4 points for this.
3) 1x Fail to use appropriate gear. Location: Centre of Ubi ave 1. 2 points.
4) Speed too slow for the road. Location: Junction of Ubi ave 3 and rd 3. 2 points.
5) Speed too slow for the road. Location: Junction of ubi rd 3 and ave 2. 2 points.
6) Speed too slow for the traffic condition. Location: Junction of ubi ave 3 and rd 3. 2 points.
7) Speed too slow for the traffic condition. Location: Centre point of Ubi ave 1. 2 points.
8) Speed too slow for the traffic condition. Location: Ubi rd 3. 2 points.
SONG BO... from my 4th to 8th mistakes, all because of speed too slow... but wait wait wait... if 40km/h is too slow, how fast you want? okay... next time I drive 80km/h for you..but don't say I didn't keep a safe following distance.. don't say I exceed speed limit please... Cause the speed limit for Ubi ave 1,3 and rd is around 50 to 60. I damn song now. All the speed too slow mistakes he can free count me one.. but he don't want. He just want to fail me. And all the time I have been keeping to the left lane. I have been using the bus lane to drive. So even if 40km/h is too slow, I see nothing wrong with that. The extreme left lane is for slow vehicles.
9) Unnecessary stopping. Location: circuit. Free count.
10) Improper turning(wide turning). Location: circuit. Free count.
The 10th mistake he got give me chance. I thank him for that.
11) Insufficient acceleration. Location: junction of Ubi rd 3 and ave 1. Free count.
12) 2x Delay in moving off. Location: circuit. 2 points each so I get 4 points for this.
13) Delay in moving off. Location: Exit gate. 2 points.
14) Fail to confirm safety for parallel parking. 4 points.
15) Turn steering wheel whilst vehicle is stationary for parallel parking. 2 points.
16) Incorrect checking of blind spot/ mirror. Location: Ubi rd 3. 2 points.
17) Fail to confirm safety for vertical parking. 4 points.
Total = 30 points. Total number of immediate failures = 0. Result: FAILED.
Yours sincerely,
SEEK THIAN LYE.
LOL... I can't stop laughing at the 16th mistake. If you say I never check my blind spot, I can accept. But if you say I check incorrectly, I am sorry... I am not a dumb ass. I know which blind spot to check.
Going to book my next test date on 13 Jan 2011. I don't really regret the mistakes that I made. I know millions of drivers out there are even worse than me and yet they passed. As they said, if you pass on your 1st attempt, it depend on your luck and the test examiner. If you pass on your 2nd attempt, it's your skill. :D I won't give up.
He failed me today too. My list is very similar to yours.
ReplyDeleteI see... well, don't be sad. You can do it.
ReplyDeleteMy tester also Mr. Seek, agree that he quite impatient guy...everything must be fast fast and smooth smooth..my parking (both V n P) ..not even apply any natural or hand brake and start to ask me to drove off..once he feel ok.
ReplyDeleteOn the road also ask me to drive fast and over take those car stop at the road side..but I did what he told n also check all blind spot before over take..
In the end I still passed with only 10 points
