This morning when I was having my CDS, my teacher suddenly asked me am I from China? I said no and in my mind I was like wth? He said my accent sounds like one?LOL...
Had a boring marketing lecture and I still prefer Mr.Paul Ng.
Took my micro results back and hmm.. wasn't really what I expected but it's ok..still an A.
I have achieved my aim of getting all As for all subject except for marketing. But most of my As are extreme low As.
After school I met up with her and we went shopping. I went to a Japanese shop and bought kiku-masamune ginjyo sake(清酒)aka rice wine. It's $10 and the alcohol percent is 16%.This is not the highest percent I drank today. I drank a little and hmm.. korean rice wine is better than japanese rice wine. But the japanese sake that I bought is very cooling. It gives you cooling effect in your mouth when you drink it...what a nice sensation. We walk pass a korean shop and decided to go in. We saw many different types of soju (烧酒) and it's sort of expensive..LOL...
So she was telling me that I got to try drinking soju and get used to it because very soon, her father will invite me to a group gathering where I have to drink 'one shot' of shot glass. So I bought chamisul, the most popular variety of soju in korea. It's $15.90 and the alcohol percent is 20.1%. This is the highest percent I drank so far in my life. So after shopping, I went to her house and her father wasn't at home. Her mum was cooking and we started doing our own stuff.lol...
I opened the bottle of soju and I wanted to try the first sip but she stopped me.She said there are some rules for drinking soju in Korea that I got to follow.I have to follow these rules as it represent disrespect if I don't. So I got to take note of all these rules when I drink with her dad.
She said RULE 1: You need a shot glass to drink it. So she went to take it and cool..it's a cute cup that can contain around 50-100mL. I wanted to pour it into my shot glass when she stopped me again...
Rule 2: Don't ever pour soju for yourself. It is against traditional custom in Korea to fill one's own glass.
Instead, it must be filled by someone else at the table. This promotes
a spirit of thoughtfulness and camaraderie.
Rule 3: In Korean culture, using two hands to offer and accept items is
considered an act of respect. Accordingly, if one's glass is going to
be filled by a superior, one should hold the glass with both hands.
Similarly, when pouring soju for an elder, one holds the bottle with
both hands.
So I poured for her and she poured for me...lol.. sounds fun.. Generally, Korean girls don't really like Soju. In my opinion, this is because Soju isn't that nice to drink and Soju is strong. Most of the time, only boys will like it. So she told me if girls drink Soju in Korea, they will create Soju bomb.I don't know what is Soju bomb until she tell me it's just mix and match with other drinks such as coca-cola, plain water. This would improve the taste, weaken the alcohol and reduce the smell of Soju which Korean girls dislike.
Rule 4: To pour a drink, hold the bottle in the right hand with the left
hand touching the right forearm or elbow; this peculiar arm position
originated from the practice of holding back the sleeve of the hanbok so that it wouldn't touch the table or the food.
Similarly, when receiving a drink, rest the glass in the left palm
and hold it with the right hand, perhaps bowing the head slightly to
show additional respect. You can also hold the glass using the same
hand positions as when pouring. Pouring and receiving with just the
right hand by a senior, or between equals, is common in normal
situations.
Rule 5: Koreans often say "one shot", a challenge to everyone in the group to down their glass in one gulp.
Rule 6: A glass should not be refilled unless completely empty and should be
promptly refilled once empty; it is considered rude to not fill someone
else's glass when empty.
I guess I got to remember all these 6 rules. After drinking the shot glass of soju, I don't really like the taste. It has burning effect in my mouth when I drink it and it's strong. So after drinking just 50-100mL, I can't take it anymore... I felt sleepy and slept for an hour. Had dinner at her house and wow... delicious food again.
Came back home and my room lamp was spoilt. Just got it fixed.
